Trust Officer- Cathedral Appointments currently have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our client’s well-established, leading law firm based in Exeter as a Trust Officer. Our client is open to a variety of backgrounds for this role, but you will be either; a recently qualified Solicitor, a Legal Executive, a Paralegal or a Tax Assistant.

Trust Officer SD280 responsibilities include...

Responsibilities of a Trusts Officer will include, but are not limited to:

·         Undertaking the day to day management of the firm’s trusts

·         Maintaining trust accounts using our client’s accounting software, advising trustees on their powers and duties, preparing and submitting trust Tax Returns as well as preparing and submitting Inheritance Tax Accounts

·         Preparing and submitting personal Tax Returns and computations for a number of existing clients, to include collating information and dealing with enquiries from the client and HMRC

·         A smaller part of the role includes management of the financial affairs of vulnerable people who are subject to the supervision of the Court of Protection under Deputyship orders and Powers of Attorney

·         You will have daily contact with trustees, beneficiaries, financial institutions, stockbrokers, financial advisers and other professional bodies

·         Complying with the Common Reporting Standard 

Trust Officer SD280 requirements include...

Background/Skills of a Trust Officer:

  • You will have experience of trust administration and will be familiar with the Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Income Tax regimes and interpreting and applying the rules in the context of trust administration
  • You will have excellent accounting and numeracy skills to enable you to keep our client’s trust accounts up to date
  • Ideally, you will be familiar with the rules governing the administration of trusts and the responsibilities placed upon trustees. Alternatively, you will be keen to develop that aspect of your experience and to study and master the legal backdrop of trust administration
  • You will be keep up to date with legal developments by reading monthly journals/online updates
  • Ideally, you will have basic experience of the preparation and submission of personal Tax Returns
  •  Relevant ATT or STEP qualifications would be beneficial but is not a requirement
  • Familiarity with Isokon, or similar accounting programmes, would be of benefit
