My client, a leader in the supply of plain bearings are looking for a R&D Support Technician to join the team on a temporary 12 month basis for maternity cover. With offices throughout Europe and Asia the client is focused on the successful development and supply of plain bearings in the automotive, rail, marine and industrial engine industries. 

Based in the Somerset location, the R&D Support Technician will have a varied role and will be expected to complete a variety of administrative duties alongside the technical focus of the role.

Job Responsibilities:

Technical:

  • Support all R&D activities when required.
  • Use microscopic and mechanical equipment to prepare metallographic samples and characterise material properties (full training will be provided).
  • Conduct routine chemical analysis on weekly basis (full training will be provided).
  • Investigate customer samples.

Administration:

  • R&D purchasing process, including obtaining quotation and generating purchase orders.
  • Monitoring deliveries.
  • Pass invoices to accounts for payment.
  • Collect data and provide monthly reports, based on pre-determined procedures.
  • Other minor office administration activities.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • •Previous technical experience or a technical university degree is needed for this role.
  • •Have the ability to effectively manage multiple work processes.
  • •Experience of liaising with internal and external stakeholders with the ability to provide relevant information and support. 
  • •Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • •A good level of competency in using Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • •Previous experience of working as an Administrator would be highly beneficial.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain some invaluable experience in a technical based role. Full training will be provided. The R&D Support Technician will be expected to work at 37.5 hour weeks, 8.00am – 4.30pm (Mon to Thurs) and 8.00am – 1.20pm (Fri).
