Cathedral Appointments are currently recruiting for a Legal Support Team Leader to join our client’s dynamic, forward thinking firm based in Exeter. The successful candidate will join the firm’s Real Estate team and will manage a large team of PAs and Administration Assistants. In order to be considered for this role, you will have previous PA experience and also experience of managing a team in a professional environment.

Legal Support Team Leader responsibilities include...

Responsibilities of a Support Team Leader will include, but are not limited to:

·         You will work closely with other Support Team Leaders to ensure cross practice working for cover and service delivery

·         You will work closely with other support functions to deliver an effective service to lawyers, e.g. archiving, reprographics, hospitality, training, new joiners, etc

·         You will review professional support workflows in conjunction with direct reports, as appropriate. This should include regular review and analysis of Big Hand reports. Develop and implement solutions for resolving any anomalies or issues as appropriate

·         Performance manage direct reports; conduct annual appraisals, provide regular feedback, instigate performance management procedures where required, identify top talent and succession plans, identify training needs and provide support in addressing those, coach and mentor direct reports

·         Lead regular team meetings, ensuring value added outputs and actions from each meeting which are aligned to the needs of the business

·         Actively participate in and promote the PA Network both within the firm and to external contacts

·         Ensure compliance and consistency of working practices, standards and adherence to the firm's policies and procedures

·         Assist team members across the department / firm whenever there is capacity or it is evident that a colleague needs assistance with their workload.

·         Build and maintain effective relationships with lawyers and clients, and develop knowledge of the department's clients and their business

·         Actively support the firm's client service initiatives, including attending client events and seminars where required.

·         Take a positive and proactive approach to work, anticipating and meeting the needs of the department

·         Assist the Head of Professional Support as require

·         Undertake other tasks as reasonably required, which are in line with the nature of the role.


Legal Support Team Leader requirements include...

Background/Skills of a Support Team Leader:

  • Working knowledge of PA duties is essential
  • Experience of people management including conducting appraisals, managing performance and dealing with disciplinary or grievance cases is essential
  • Previous supervisory experience in a professional services role is desirable
  • Competent with using IT (Microsoft Office 2010, databases etc)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal skills; effective communicator at all levels
  • A natural leader, with the ability to motivate and influence others
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills
  • Ability to work flexibly and cope with changing priorities
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational skills with a methodical approach towards workloads
  • Ability to work under own initiative
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality and use of tact and discretion
