Head of People - Cathedral Appointments Ltd has been appointed to recruit a Head of People for Riverford Organic Farmers.  With their head office based in beautiful Devon, Riverford grow and sell organic veg boxes to around 100,000 customers and employ over 550 staff.  This is a newly created role for them and as Head of People you will join a values driven business where people matter and HR plays a key role in the future direction and success of the business.

Head of People responsibilities include...

  • Supporting the Director of People & Culture to agree the strategic direction of the department and core goals for the future to meet their aims of being an exceptional place to work.
  • Really support to drive some areas of culture change and development needed across the company to ensure their values and how they do things are really being embraced across all areas of the business.  
  • Manage and continue to get the best out of their committed and hardworking People team.
  • Help to build management and leadership capabilities across all sites to ensure they get the best out of people and help them reach their potential.
  • Support the Director of People & Culture by leading people processes – performance reviews, one 2 ones, engagement activities and L&D alongside the People Team activities.
  • Support the business and managers by ensuring there is focus on organisation structure, job design, talent development and culture to support Riverford’s plans for the future.
  • Manage cyclical people activities such as pay reviews, profit share payments, employee engagement activities, workplace awards etc.
  • Develop appropriate policies and procedures that are innovative and not over bureaucratic. 
  • Offer advice and support to managers across all sites on all aspects of HR including discipline and grievance, performance management, long term sickness and absence.
  • Support with complex casework and take on other projects including restructures / TUPE.
  • Contribute to developing the human capital of the business and encouraging a culture of continuous learning and improvement

Head of People requirements include...

  • Degree educated and ideally CIPD qualified however, experience will also be taken into account
  • Demonstrable leadership experience that inspires and engages the organisation as a whole.
  • Led and delivered a range of HR strategic activities including organisational development with a proven business benefit within a high performing organisation.
  • Experience of managing complex Employee Relations cases. To include TUPE, redundancy, performance management, ill health capability and settlement agreements across multiple locations.
  • Strong ER and Employment Law understanding and network, continually keeping up to date with government changes and implementations.

The Head of People position is not a transactional HR role.  Riverford are seeking a senior People Professional who is able to play a strategic and influential role in building the people business plan alongside the Director of People & Culture.  You will have gravitas, be engaging, creative and highly commercial.  Driving change, getting the best out of people and making things happen should be second nature.
