This is a unique opportunity to join Exeter Cathedral as Clerk to the Chapter. The key purpose of the role is to manage and administer the cycle of meetings throughout the year to allow the Dean and the Managing Director to focus on the strategic aspects of running the Cathedral.

Clerk to the Chapter responsibilities include...

  • Agenda setting (in conjunction with the various chairpersons), preparation of papers, meeting management and minute taking for approximately 25 meetings throughout the year
  • Coordinating the annual report on behalf of the Chapter
  • Completing the annual statistics for the Association of English Cathedrals
  • Keeping a record of the use of the Cathedral seal
  • Managing the election process for Cathedral Council and the Community Committee
  • Acting in the formal role of Clerk to the Chapter during the election and confirmation of a new Dean or Bishop
  • Managing the process of updating the Constitution and Statutes when required

Clerk to the Chapter requirements include...

This is a niche role and as such, an interest or knowledge of working within a Cathedral environment would be advantageous. Candidates should be able to display excellent minute taking capabilities with significant experience of taking minutes at strategic level meetings. This is a permanent but part time opportunity which will require someone for approximately 7 days per month which flexibility on this during busy or quiet times.
