Buyer (3 – 6 Month Contract)

Cathedral Appointments are working with an Exeter based Manufacturing company who need a highly experienced Buyer, on a short-term contract to assist the current Purchasing and Supply Chain teams.

This is an initial three-month contract with the likelihood of it being extended to six months (and potentially further, project dependent). This position will be a Monday to Friday role, but will involve regular travel to company suppliers and customers, so a full driving license is essential.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Manage, control and co-ordinate the supply of components and materials to the production schedule requirements, to satisfy the delivery requirements.
  • Liaise with suppliers following the issue of the purchase orders to monitor the progress and update the business on critical dates.
  • Carry out regular on-site inspections / meetings with suppliers to check that the quality of sub-contract components meet with the agreed standards / specifications, ensuring critical delivery dates are being met, and report back all findings / updates to the Procurement Manager.
  • Further develop the current supplier base by identifying and implementing action plans to improve quality, cost and delivery performance.
  • Identify new Sub-Contractors that may be beneficial to the organisation.
  • Raise purchase orders to approved suppliers as and when required.

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • Qualified to CIPS Certificate in Procurement & Supply or proven work-based experience within an engineering / manufacturing organisation.
  • An understanding of technical drawings is essential.
  • Proven Commercial and Sub-Contract Management skills are essential.
  • Organised and methodical individual with effective negotiating and communication skills.
  • IT literate with a working knowledge of SAGE.
  • Self motivated.
  • Full UK driving licence.
