The report features original survey data which provide the most up-to-date monthly picture of recruitment, employment, staff availability and employee earnings trends available.

  • January see weaker growth in staff placements
  • There was slower increases in both permanent placements and temp billings
  • The demand for staff reaches 17-month high
  • The availability of permanent candidates drops at faster pace
  • Permanent placements increase at softest pace in four months
  • Whilst temp billings growth weakens slightly
  • Candidate availability continues to tighten which is contributing to further upward pressure on pay
  • Recruitment agencies reported slower growth of staff appointments at the start of 2017.
  • Permanent placements increase at slowest pace since last September
  • Temp billings growth eases but remains sharp
  • The growth of demand for staff reaches 17-month high
  • In terms of permanent salaries; recruitment consultants registered a sustained increase in starting salaries for people placed in permanent roles at the start of the year.
  • The UK unemployment rate stood at a ten-year low of 4.8% in the three months to November, according to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics.
  • This figure was also well below the EU average of 8.3%
