The March Report on Jobs

Summary of March’s Report on Jobs

This is a summary of the key points from the latest Report on Jobs for March which is compiled by Markit and sponsored by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).

  • Permanent placements growth weakest since last September
  • Temp billings rise at fastest pace in 4 months
  • Vacancy growth eases to 33 month low

The South West seems to be mirroring the above with employers holding back on permanent recruitment at the moment which is possibly as a result of uncertainty around a possible Brexit. We have also noticed an increased amount of temporary bookings being registered as employers look to fill short term gaps rather than recruit permanently.

The main demand for permanent staff currently seems to be in Accounting, Executive and IT, with temporary demand for administration and secretarial type roles.

Permanent staff that are in short supply include: Accountancy, Construction, Financial Services, Engineering, Marketing and IT.
