May's Report on Jobs

Posted on June 08, 2016

This is a summary of the key points from the latest Report on Jobs for May which is compiled by Markit and sponsored by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).

Key points from the survey include: -

·         There is a weaker rise in permanent placements amid EU referendum uncertainty

·         Temp billings growth eases from 13-month high

·         Pay growth softens but remains marked

·         The South of the Country is continuing to record strong growth in permanent jobs

The South West seems to be continuing to echo the above with many businesses now facing candidate shortages. From engineering firms, to accountancy practices and executive professionals, particularly those with a commercial focus, are looking for staff with the right skills for the jobs that are available. Cathedral Appointments have several “hard to fill” permanent vacancies and clients are continuing to fill short term gaps with temporary workers.

The main demand for permanent staff currently remains in Accounting, Legal and IT sectors, with temporary demand for administration and secretarial type roles.
