February’s Report on Jobs

According to the latest Report on Jobs which is compiled by Markit and sponsored by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation, both the employment rate and vacancies hit record highs. The UK Employment rate and number of job vacancies have risen to record highs according to the Office for National Statistics. It is now at 74.1% which is the highest since records began in 1971. The number of employed now stands at 31.42 million which is also a record.

During November, December and January there were 776,000 unfilled job vacancies nationally and with only 1.69 million unemployed, the jobless to vacancy ratio is the lowest for a decade.

Other key points from the report were:-

Permanent placements increase at quickest pace in 3 months

Temp billings growth remains steady

Permanent salaries rise at a stronger rate but temp pay growth eases

Biggest demand for permanent and temporary staff is in the Nursing/Medical/Care sector.

Key permanent staff in short supply are within accountancy/financial, construction and engineering.
